Imagine La Vega High School students excited to go to prom (most of them). Many of them go to their parents and tell them prom is coming up and they need money to buy a dress, shoes, purse, makeup and nails. Money is scare, and their primary concern is paying bills and having enough money to put food on the table. For some of our students, this is a reality.
Fairy Tale Prom collects donations of new or gently used prom dresses, tuxes, suits, purses, dress shoes or other items one would need for prom. The goal is to provide prom wear for 20 students this year.
Anyone that could provide services such as hair, nails, makeup or limo service may contact Sara Rudd, La Vega High School Career & Technical Education (CTE) Coordinator, at (254) 299-6830 or Sara.firstname.lastname@example.org. Seniors are already faced with the cost of graduation robes, letterman jackets, class rings, yearbooks and much more.
Prom wear can be dropped off between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the high school. Clothes should be donated already dry cleaned. The Fairy tale closet will be open to La Vega High School students starting April 17. Prom is May 9 at the Waco Convention Center. The students that will borrow the prom wear will complete a short form and be able to choose from the selection donated.
Coordinators are accepting the names of students and seeking volunteers who would like to help. They are also contacting sororities and resale stores for donations.
