La Vega Independent School District serves about 3,000 students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. La Vega Elementary was recognized as a 2010 National Blue Ribbon School, one of 304 in the nation. The school has achieved exemplary status with the Texas Education Agency and received the Texas Business and Education Coalition Honor Roll Award for sustained academic excellence.

La Vega Junior High School George Dixon Campus has achieved recognized status. La Vega High School is an Academically Acceptable 3A school with about 750 students. The community passed a $24.4 million bond in 2009 to fund the construction of a new intermediate school and renovations, including new science labs, to the high school.
